Job Types Overview

At Star Behaviors, we understand that every role within the transportation and logistics industry demands a unique combination of qualities, values, and behaviors. That’s why we've developed tailored behavioral assessments to help carriers make better hiring decisions, reduce turnover, and build stronger fleets.

Our assessments are not personality tests—they are predictive hiring tools designed to identify individuals most likely to succeed in a specific role, based on the core characteristics that matter most. Here's an overview of our current job-type assessments:

Class A CDL Truck Driver Assessment

Designed for: Company drivers operating Class A vehicles in OTR, Regional, or Local lanes.

The Star Behaviors Class A CDL Truck Driver Assessment focuses on the foundational behavioral traits that distinguish top-performing drivers from those who may struggle or leave prematurely. This assessment evaluates qualities such as accountability, self-discipline, patience, and the ability to work independently while maintaining focus and safety.

Why it matters:
Carriers can significantly reduce costly turnover by identifying drivers who not only have the skills to drive—but the behavioral strengths to thrive. The assessment provides recruiters and fleet managers with real-time insights before the hire, increasing the likelihood of long-term retention and performance.

Safety Review Assessment

Designed for:

  • Drivers involved in safety-related incidents, violations, or complaints
  • Drivers hired prior to the introduction of the StarLogic Platform, powered by Star Behaviors

The Safety Review Assessment is a powerful post-hire tool used by Safety Departments and Operations to gain insight into a driver’s behavioral tendencies after they’ve joined the fleet. Whether a driver has been involved in an incident—or was hired before Predictive Hiring practices were implemented—this assessment helps identify underlying patterns that may contribute to risky behavior, poor communication, or resistance to coaching.

This isn’t about assigning blame—it’s about providing leadership the clarity to coach, counsel, or reassign with confidence. The assessment evaluates traits such as impulse control, openness to feedback, adaptability, and more—giving Safety teams the tools they need to support accountability and improvement.

Why it matters:
With insurance premiums rising and safety violations impacting carrier scores and reputations, understanding driver behavior is no longer optional—it’s essential. The Safety Review Assessment offers a second chance to catch what the initial hire might have missed, and a chance to intervene early before the next event occurs.

Class A CDL Owner Operator Truck Driver Assessment

Designed for: Independent contractors and Owner Operators managing their own truck and business operations, as well as drivers entering company-sponsored Lease Operator programs.

Owner Operators aren’t just drivers—they are business owners. Success in this role requires more than the ability to operate a truck. It demands strong entrepreneurial behaviors, financial discipline, and a mindset of personal accountability.

At Star Behaviors, we strongly recommend that all Owner Operator candidates first complete the Class A CDL Truck Driver Assessment to ensure they possess the foundational behaviors necessary for success behind the wheel. For those drivers who are onboarding as Owner Operators or entering a Lease Operator Program, the Class A CDL Owner Operator Assessment is then used to evaluate additional behavioral dimensions specific to the entrepreneurial and business management side of the role.

This assessment focuses on traits such as self-motivation, risk tolerance, time management, follow-through, and decision-making—qualities that separate those who wish to be Owner Operators from those truly prepared to succeed as one.

Why it matters:
Fleets that work with Owner Operators—or sponsor Lease Operator programs—carry added risk when onboarding individuals not prepared for the business responsibilities of the role. This dual-assessment approach helps ensure alignment between the driver and the demands of the opportunity—reducing turnover, disputes, and equipment recovery issues, while improving trust, performance, and profitability.
